Schenectady Mayor Gary McCarthy announces re-election campaign

Schenectady Mayor Gary R. McCarthy gathered with supporters on Tuesday, April 9th in Schenectady City Hall’s Rotunda to announce that he’s running for re-election for a third (four-year) term.

McCarthy was formally endorsed by the Schenectady City Democratic Committee and the Schenectady County Democratic Committee in February. McCarthy was elected Mayor in the 2011 general election and was re-elected in 2015.

Gary R. McCarthy assumed the role of Acting Mayor of the City of Schenectady in April 2011, bringing with him more than three decades of experience in government, and a reputation as a hands-on, accessible, public servant who believes that government can be a force for positive change in the lives of its residents. He was elected to a full four-year term as Mayor in November 2011 and was re-elected in 2015.
